No idea if you still read these comments, but I was wondering if you could explain adjusting? I've seen it and have done it myself but I've never understood why, and your explanation never made it across for me.
In my understanding, such fidget is caused by the fact that your aim and movement are always interfering with each other. Unlike when using a joystick, with WASD you have only 8 directions to move into horizontally; in order to move freely you will have to adjust your facing accordingly, however doing so will also cause the crosshair to move away from your target too. Thus you have to adjust as an attempt to move generally in the way you desire while keeping your crosshair on the target when shooting(and in proximity when not shooting). It's kind of a compromise maybe we can say? You don't have a very precise picture of enemies doing adjust in your head in order to utilize strafe stabs, kind of like counter-steering and bikes. Knowing how it works will help with your understanding but you don't have to think about it all the time, since it's only a "micro" thing.
No idea if you still read these comments, but I was wondering if you could explain adjusting? I've seen it and have done it myself but I've never understood why, and your explanation never made it across for me.
This video reminds me of that one spy tutorial parody from that one spy main youtuber cat or something
I have 1000 yours playing spy but i just tricked people by intuition, i won't complain, i did have a good level for what i expected, but by rewatching your videos again, i'm now really understanding how to be consistent, and even though i still have some difficulty with some players, i'm getting VERY stable with some others, and i really appreciate it.

[15:02](ruclips.net/video/jEXA6vKsTcE/видео.html&t=902) Circle strafing is a battle of who gets behind who. - Circle strafing exploits the other player having to adjust to look at you. - To pull off the stab, you have to keep strafing in the same direction and aim for a spot to the side and behind the other player. [22:33](ruclips.net/video/jEXA6vKsTcE/видео.html&t=1353) Circle strafing allows you to avoid flames while going for stabs. - Circle strafing helps in avoiding flames and staying on player's left during stabs. - However, it is weak against melee weapons as the opponent can hit you first. [30:04](ruclips.net/video/jEXA6vKsTcE/видео.html&t=1804) Circle strafing involves different angles and strategies for strafing towards opponents. - Circle strafing forwards is for melee attackers, sideways is for aiming, and backwards is for evading. - Backwards strafing requires adjusting and leading opponents to create opportunities for stabs. [37:35](ruclips.net/video/jEXA6vKsTcE/видео.html&t=2255) Circle strafing allows you to lead opponents and position for stabs effectively. - Leading opponents slowly restricts their space, making it easier to get close for a stab in tight hallways. - Circle strafing allows you to potentially avoid pyro flames and airblast by leading and positioning strategically. [45:06](ruclips.net/video/jEXA6vKsTcE/видео.html&t=2706) Circle strafing and backpedaling are crucial in surprising and outmaneuvering opponents. - Circular strafing is a powerful technique to cover everyone, making it difficult to predict and counter. - Backpedal stab can be initiated when circular strafing fails and disrupts opponent's strafe, making it hard to predict the subsequent movement. [52:37](ruclips.net/video/jEXA6vKsTcE/видео.html&t=3157) Understanding the dynamics of strafing and backpedaling in TF2 gameplay - Backing off makes players vulnerable, leading to stabs. [1:00:01](ruclips.net/video/jEXA6vKsTcE/видео.html&t=3601) Circle strafing allows you to take corners and back up faster than your opponents. - Peeking through corners to use as cover and preparing to back up into a corner increases your chances of successful stabbing. - Knowing corner systems and double corners and taking advantage of them can give you the upper hand in backpedaling situations.

The Spy Scriptures foundation
A 'modernization' of this video could be really nice, with improved audio quality, chapter divisions, subtitles, etc (though the latter options could just be added to this one I suppose) Not to imply the quality of this video is poor or anything, it can just feel a little hard to follow at times and the lack of chapter markers makes it harder to 'review' the material
bro's monolouge and music makes him seem like an evil scientist
my one problem with this tutorial is that the current playerbase hardly tries to get behind the spy but rather builds a safe distance to where the spy is forced to pull out his gun. Why would you go towards the spy when you can back up and shoot him and force his retreat?
like, in every clip you show the enemy has horrible tracking. genuinely awful.
The players are obviously more aware from +7 years ago but that doesn't mean the stabs are inapplicable, to counter people that are more "passive" with their strafes and keep distance, use your gun and think of it as a magnet, when you shoot a player they get distracted more into dodging and not avoiding which opens chances to close the distance and stab them, another idea is to fake run because showing your back also attracts players, you can also use corners and try to get c2c stabs specially since it simplifies movement
The problem you described is mainly due to that spy himself sucks, he is simply way too fragile to survive gunshots before reaching a favorable distance. If ppl are using their own mobiity options/damage/knockback/whatever method to keep a distance from spies, this means they are **actually** *smart* and not gigantic-melee-hitbox-and-ludicrous-crit-rate-abusing mfs. Put aside how broken melees are, keeping a safe distance is simply the best way to deal with someone capable of close-range instakill - and in fact does take practice and brain usage. The entire strafe stab skillset apply to almost all classes and playstyles., e.g. when playing demo a rather reckless Lv.4 scout is about to try and finish you off around a corner, you know you'd better spam a sticky at the outer side of the corner because he's likely to take that route as a Lv.4. However much spy sucks, it does not mean knowledges on how players would move in a CQC situation are not useful.
Coming back here after all that's been discovered in the past 2 years or so; my lord, imagine being literally a decade ahead of everyone else. I happened to discover a working instant ctap bind on complete accident, it's entirely possible that there could've been an alternate timeline where ctaps had 10 more entire years of innovation, practice, and refinement, far beyond what we see today.
Hey this tutorial fucking sucks and is needlessly dramatic. You spend 2 minutes explaining the fundamentals and 50 pumping yourself up because deep down you know this topic is stupid it’s a dead game for autists.
it's funny. slalom stab was my most consistent stab (more than ALL other stab types) for a very long time, but I never knew how to do the strafe/chase stabs. (Now watching these videos hoping to learn:>) So what happened was I never ever ever fought spies because i didnt know how LOL and walking backwards into spies is not smart rofl
what I find fascinating about the whole 'levels' thing is that good tf2 players are already semi-consciously aware of this. You can immediately tell how good a player is within seconds based literally on how they wasd around, just running on your experience and intuition with fighting good players. (It's also a good sign of a hacker if their movement is really bad yet their performance is insane)
genius.
Thank for your work, sensei

So I see a lot of these comments, and a lot of them seem to be confused. So, if you are learning this for the first time, congrats and welcome. Here's a few things to note: - Pyros airblast is no longer able to be dodged. If it happens you got extremely lucky. There are other ways to counter an airblast now. Jumping before an airblast can throw the pyro off, airstrafing can help you, and if the pyro has a specific habit centered around airblasts you might be able to exploit this, but you will learn about habits later on. - Watch the entire tutorial, including the 4 other parts after this, before you comment that it does not work on x player who does y. A lot of what I am seeing is explained in later parts. - You have to be mentally present to understand this stab and all of the other stabs in its entirety. If you play while watching, it's going to be significantly harder. - If you are confused about something after watching all of the videos, time stamps do exist in the comments. However, this is also not something you want to just watch once. It is a lot of information to take in. So rewatching the tutorials over and over will build your understanding significantly more than just watching once. Now, this is something that has to be practiced. You can't just watch tutorials and suddenly be able to instantly recognize someone, and instantly understand what a person is doing. So, clip your failures and rewatch them. If you do not understand what is happening, or how someone is moving, rewatching a clip in slow motion is very helpful. Looking up the video "Why you suck at circlestrafing" explains this better than I can, and also points you towards the circle strafing community, which can also help you. Most importantly, if you are not having fun with it, you do not have to do it. This is not a fundamental part of spy, in fact it might as well be an entirely different class. If you do not think it works, or just find it to be boring, or too challenging, or whatever the reason may be, these videos are here for people who want to learn.
I agree with all of this, except one thing: you can't airstrafe when you get airblasted because it now applies a hidden slowdown mechanic :( But yes, it's vital to pay close attention when watching these videos and constantly ask yourself why you did and didn't get each stab you attempt.
@@ME0WMERE ohh yeah I completely forgot about the slow. Thanks for reminding me!
